A letter to my 16 year old self. Part 1.

Hey Guys! We always appreciate your supportive emails, and especially enjoy the blogging suggestions.  Someone recently asked me what advice I would give to my high school self.

I actually received a letter from my 13 year old self just two years ago...mailed from a Jr. High English teacher.  If I ever find it, I'll be sure to post it here.

It was delivered to my parents house... and they read it aloud at the dinner table before mailing it to me in Chicago. It. was. SO. ridiculous. So ridiculous that I didn't even mind them opening my mail from Past Kristen and reading it aloud at dinner. Mostly it professed my love for David Csepe.
 And Relient K.

But high school is different. You're old enough to know what's going on in the world. You're tired of people underestimating you because of your age... and you're ready to be an adult. At least, mostly ready. I'm not going to pretend like I remember perfectly…I realized yesterday it’s been a while since HS graduation. Like an 8 years while. But there are some things that stick out, and those we’ll discuss.

To the Ladies-
Hey there. I learned early on at a pool party that being ambushed by your friends with all your glaring flaws hurts. badly.  But, you need friends. I also learned that gentle correction from someone who loves you is much easier to digest, and absorbs into the deepest parts of who you are.  So, although we’re just talking through this blog, I’m going to pretend like you’re mah frand, k? Because we all appreciate love and honesty (and honesty with love). We’ll talk based on my High School experiencesIf some of this resonates, great! …if not, just take the parts that do and assume that I was more messed up than you in High School.

See yous tomorrow!

  1. Amen to that. We do so dearly appreciate love and honesty and honesty with love!

    I'm in on this, too.

And like I posted on facebook, my initial response goes like this https://vimeo.com/986502. (Thank you, Mr. Heath!)
